All customers are
encouraged to participate in our recycling program. Here is some
information to get you started.
Pratt Trucking is proud to announce our latest effort to
provide you with the best service in the industry, while doing our part
to help protect the environment. Single Stream Recycling
is a service that allows us to expand our
recycling program by accepting more kinds of materials AND it allows us
to mix the recyclable materials together in the truck. Customers who
already participate in our recycling program will want to follow the new
guidelines below. Customers who wish to participate are encouraged to call
the office to sign up. If you do NOT wish to recycle, you do not need to
do anything. Here is how it works:
New additions to our
recycling program:
Corrugated: We are now able to accept
used corrugated boxes on our residential recycling routes. Boxes need to
be broken down and/or cut up. Pieces of corrugated must be no larger than
3 feet by 3 feet.
Cardboard: This includes, but is not
limited to tissue and cereal boxes, and cartons that hold canned
beverages. They are now accepted. Please no pizza boxes or egg cartons,
dispose of these in the trash.
Junk Mail, Office Stationery, School Papers, Catalogs, Phone Books, even Wrapping Paper: These materials are now accepted with recycling. Put them in
your bin loose as opposed to bagged. It is advisable to have a recycling
receptacle with a lid so that the papers do not blow away.
Plastic: We can now accept any plastic
that is #1 or #2 of any color. You will find the number on the bottom of
the container inside a triangular recycling symbol. Please rinse and
flatten all plastic items. Any plastic that is not number #1 or #2 should
be thrown with your regular trash.
How to handle the
items we’ve been recycling all along:
Newspaper: Should now be loose inside of your receptacle. This is a departure from our previous instructions to bag or
tie up papers. They now need to be loose which is why we are now
recommending that customers use a Rubbermaid type of tote with a lid.
This will prevent papers from blowing away, and keep the bin from filling
up with water on rainy days. Please don’t use a
receptacle that will be too heavy for the driver to lift when it is full.
Glass: No changes here. Any color
glass, rinsed out. Caps, labels, and corks need not be removed.
PLEASE, NO ceramics, window glass, mirrors, crystal, or light
bulbs.
Cans: No changes here either.
Aluminum, tin, and steel cans are acceptable. Labels need not be removed.
PLEASE, NO paint or aerosol cans.
Because we can now put all of these materials together,
you will no longer see our recycle truck on the streets of your
neighborhood. Instead, we are now using a trash truck like you are used
to seeing, the only difference is that it is delegated strictly for
recycling.
We strongly encourage folks who are not currently
participating in the recycling program to sign up. The efforts of each
household really do add up to make a difference. Simply call the office
at (508) 943-5000. We’ll tell you the recycling schedule for your
street and when you can start.
The following is a
list of other Non-Acceptable materials:
Food Waste, Styrofoam, Printer Cartridges (toner or ink
jet), Cell Phones, Batteries and Electronics.
|
NOTE: Plastics,
Glass Bottles & Jars and Tin Cans MUST be rinsed and
clean. Any Product that is not rinsed, or is
not of the type we recycle will be considered a
contaminate and the whole bin will be left behind.

Televisions and
Computer Monitors:
These items can no longer be disposed of with regular
trash or curbside recycling. Mass DEP mandates that the Cathode Ray Tubes
inside must be recycled. They can be brought to our Drop-Off yard.
Televisions and monitors range in price depending on the size so please
call. Do NOT put these out curbside.
Once again, we recommend you purchase a Rubbermaid tote
with a lid. The lid is necessary to prevent loose newspaper and plastic
jugs from blowing around your neighborhood. In order to maintain a cost
effective and efficient program we will be collecting recyclables every
other week. Recyclables are picked up separately from your trash which
could be at an earlier OR later time. Therefore, it is important to have
both your trash AND recycle bin at the curb by 7:00 A.M. on your pickup
day.
Thank you for your participation in our recycling
program. If you have any questions or suggestions on how we can improve
this service, please feel free to call us at 508-943-5000.
